Terms of use

Version 1 (draft, pending legal review) · last updated July 2026

Who we are, and what you’re agreeing to

canvascode.org is run by CanvasCode, a nonprofit initiative currently in the process of registration in India (Section 8 company) and the United States (501(c)(3)). By using this site — and, if you create an account, by clicking sign-up — you agree to these terms and to the privacy notice, which is part of them. These terms form an electronic agreement under India’s Information Technology Act 2000.

What this site does

Accounts

Adult accounts are created by you, through our authentication provider (Clerk). Keep your credentials to yourself; you are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend accounts that break these terms or put anyone at risk.

Children never accept these terms. Under Indian contract law a minor cannot be a contracting party, so child accounts in the Studio are created only by authorized staff, only after a lawful guardian’s consent is recorded, and the guardian accepts these terms on the child’s behalf. Children receive plain-language community rules, not a contract. Guardians may withdraw consent — and with it, the account — at any time. Child accounts use minimal identifiers (first name and initial, username and PIN) and carry the protections in our privacy notice and safeguarding policy.

What you may not do

Consistent with India’s IT Rules 2021, you agree not to upload or transmit content that: belongs to someone else without permission; is defamatory, obscene, or invasive of privacy; is harmful to children in any way; infringes intellectual property; deceives about the origin of a message; impersonates another person; threatens the security of the site or others’ data (no malware, scraping of personal data, or access attempts beyond your role); or violates any law. We remove such content and may involve authorities where children are concerned.

Your content

What you submit stays yours. You grant CanvasCode a limited licence to store and use submissions solely to operate the program and evaluate applications. A child’s artifacts remain the child’s own — their canvas is their portfolio, licensed to us only as needed to run the program, never for marketing without separate documented consent, and never for training AI models.

AI, disclosed plainly

Inside the Studio, AI drafts feedback on submitted work. A trained adult reviews, edits, and approves every draft before a child sees it. No decision affecting a person is made by automation alone.

The honest disclaimers

The site is provided as-is. We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we make no warranties, and nothing here is professional, legal, or financial advice. To the extent permitted by law, CanvasCode’s liability arising from use of this site is limited to the maximum extent permissible; nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Adults using the site agree to indemnify CanvasCode against claims arising from their own unlawful use. This clause never applies to children.

Changes, termination, and the boring-but-important rest

We may update these terms; material changes are dated above and noted on the updates page. Continued use after a change is acceptance. If any clause is unenforceable, the rest stand. These terms are governed by the laws of India; courts at Hyderabad, Telangana have jurisdiction, without depriving consumers of protections available where they live. A separate US rider will accompany the 501(c)(3) upon registration.

Grievances

Grievance contact: hello@canvascode.org (named Grievance Officer to be published upon registration). We acknowledge within 48 hours and resolve within 15 days.
